Life in Miniature

Kath Holden transforms the world around her into perfectly rendered miniatures. Her creations are whimsical yet keenly observed, and a far cry from the genteel museum pieces that her contemporaries are producing. A proud Yorkshire woman, Kath reflects on her life and art as she carves a place for herself in the precious world of miniatures.

Guns Found Here

When there’s a gun crime in America, there’s only one place to go to trace the gun back to its owner: Martinsburg, West Virginia. That’s where the ATF’s National Tracing Center handles roughly 8,000 active traces per day — all while inside a government-mandated technology time-capsule that makes searching a database of gun owners impossible. This is nothing like those cop shows you watch. With more gun stores in the U.S.A. than McDonalds, Starbucks, and supermarkets combined, there’s a lot of paperwork to manually sort through. And it's truly a sight to behold.

In the Dark

1 in 5 people struggle with dyslexia. The International Dyslexia Association says dyslexia is a "neurological condition caused by a different wiring of the brain. There is no cure for dyslexia and individuals with this condition must learn coping strategies." That is the status quo accepted by everyone except holistic chiropractor Phyllis Books, who has been working to reverse dyslexia for more than 30 years. In the Dark takes place in Books' home and office in Austin, Texas and follows Jen, 26, and Kate, 7, on their journeys with Books to seek treatment and change their lives in as little as five days.

Anas v. the Giant

Anas Modamani arrived in Berlin in 2015 after making the trek from Syria and celebrated with a selfie he posted to Facebook. But his photo quickly became a ‘fake news’ post, going viral. Overnight, Anas found himself in the crosshairs of a geopolitical debate threatening everything he had built in his new home. Deciding to take matters into his own hands, he brought a lawsuit against Facebook, one of the most powerful companies of our time. But what happened on his day in court?

In our new and rapidly evolving media ecosystem, the story of Anas Modamani offers an inside glimpse into the online fake news and hate speech scandals that have rocked the world over the last few years.
