This SXSW, join us at the Waller Creek Boathouse on Lady Bird Lake to celebrate Ghostly International’s 20th Anniversary with two nights of music under the stars.
Head to the waterfront at sunset each night for a range of performances from the label’s roster & friends, spanning both established and emerging practitioners of electronic pop, jazz, ambient, and experimental sound. Drop by the boathouse during the day to enjoy lounging on the docks, custom cocktails, a variety of outdoor activities and curated DJ sets.
This showcase is part of In the Element, a two-day activation presented by Atlas Obscura & GORE-TEX Brands at the Waller Creek Boathouse on Lady Bird Lake.
Day 1: Wednesday, March 13, 2019
6:00 P.M. DEVON CHURCH
Winnipeg-born, Brooklyn-based producer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Devon Church found his voice after the dissolution of a decade-long marriage and creative collaboration (Exitmusic, a nightmare-pop project co-founded by Church’s ex-wife). His singular, rough-hewn-yet-elegant style of Cohen-esque pop poetics deploy elements of drone, psychedelic minimalism, harmonic noise, and distortion-tinged, angelic ambience.
7:00 P.M. CLAIRE GEORGE
The music of songwriter Claire George combines cosmic curiosity with an imaginative sense of melody and uniquely swirling electronic productions. Claire’s voice may be familiar to some through her work as a vocal topliner in the electronic space, or as the lead singer for San Francisco act HEARTWATCH, but her latest project, released in November 2018 on Cascine, sees Claire turn her focus inward.
8:00 P.M. OURI
Ouri is a DJ, electronic producer and multi-instrumentalist. Hailing from South America by way of France, she produces electronic music in Montreal. Her background experience with the piano, harp and cello heavily influence her shape-shifting approach to melody and bass. Her latest EP, We Share Our Blood, was released on Ghostly International in 2018.
9:00 P.M. SHIGETO
Since 2010, the music of Zach Saginaw, who records as Shigeto, has cross-wired a host of musical influences, traversing jazz, hip-hop, electronic, ambient, funk, and folk. Across a growing body of work, the longtime Ghostly International pays tribute to his Japanese heritage and to the deep musical legacy of Detroit, his current home.
