Cartoonists watch you. It's our job to see what others do not; we focus on minute details and big trends of life and observe our world. We know what you are doing, we speculate (and sometimes fabricate) as to why you are doing it. We are anthropologists who report in pen and ink, stylus and tablet; our findings are crafted to spear, ridicule, expose, provoke, and create laughter. Our efforts may hurt, but also have the profound ability to connect. Humor is a complicated tool: historically it can be divisive, yet it also can bring us together. By looking at the history of US culture through the eyes of cartoonists, we see our common humanity and our common hatred. Liza will examine past and current cultural ideas, and digitally draw onstage to demontrate the power of cartoons to connect.
