Meritocracy is social ideal that is widely believed in the liberal/western world: if you work harder than your peers and follow your goals, you will achieve anything you want. Being privileged means you believe the meritocratic system is fair, because you can’t see something you haven’t experienced yourself. The first step to change this mindset is to recognize your own privilege. Why is that so important? Because to affect real change in corporate structures it’s fundamental to start at the leadership, who, for the most part, is extremely privileged. In our meet up we will help people recognize their own privilege through a simple test and suggest actions so that everyone can find their role in building more diverse teams.
