As voice devices become more popular, and as more online experiences are powered by algorithms, journalists are increasingly nervous about the consequences of using these technologies in the distribution of their work.
When NPR built NPR One, an engine that powers personalized experiences on voice, mobile, and more, we asked ourselves this question: How can journalists use algorithms responsibly to accomplish their newsroom missions?
Since NPR One's launch in 2014, we've learned that technology can only do as much good as the people behind it empower it to. In other words, algorithms can’t do their job right without the help of (human) journalists.
