No social justice movement has created lasting change without the full participation and leadership of those directly affected. The growing movement to reform our harshly punitive criminal legal system is no exception. Formerly incarcerated people have experienced the traumas of incarceration, navigated returning home to our communities with little support or access to resources, and created pathways towards a better life with felony attached to their name. This invaluable lived experience is not without an inherent loaded ask.
