As the clock ticks, each of us will eventually reach the end; Death. But even when you encounter physical death, there is a chance that you’ll live on virtually, whether you like it or not. Technologies such as AI, GAN, hi-res CGI, motion tracking, are enabling us to recreate the deceased as if they are still alive.
We too have challenged this concept in a TV program, “Day of Reunion: If You Could Meet the Departed”. We collected data of the deceased, and recreated her with CGI so her son can reunite with her and have one last conversation. We kept on questioning ourselves about the ethical nature of the idea, and tried to design something that can truly help someone heal, rather than help expanding a dark dystopian world.
We would love to share the behind the scenes of this production, and the sensitivity around its design, along with other examples within this genre to shed some light on its pros and cons, and how it may develop in the future.
